Making the Most of Family Time
August 20, 2019
I’m a big fan of movies… so much so that I have a membership at the movie theater that allows me see lots of movies for a standard monthly price. I love movies. But I hate movie theater crowds (seriously… put your phone away!). My best movie-going experience is when there’s enough space around me to feel like I still have some personal space, but there’s enough people there to laugh with me at the funny parts and cheer with me when [SPOILER ALERT] Captain America swings Thor’s hammer!
We’re launching our second worship service on Sunday mornings beginning September 8 at 9am & 10:30am, in part, to make sure our guests feel that same kind of experience. Where they feel like there’s room for them, without having to crawl all over people just to find a seat. We’re excited to make room for more people to find their way back to God along with us!
But one thing is true when we make changes like this… many people will feel like we’re not all “one big family” together in the same spot. I get it. Something about this kind of change might make you wonder, are we just never going to see each other again? Even though, right now, many of us are not in the same place as it is with volunteers regularly missing out on worship because they serve with kids, we still get attached to our single worship experience.
Being together as a family matters and with almost 400 of us already, the truth is you’re more likely to find that family feel in your missional community or on your ministry team, rather than in our public worship gatherings. But we also want to be intentional in naming and creating space for us to be together.
That’s why we’re trying to take an intentional approach to observing “family time” in between our services from 10:05-10:30am every single week. This is a great chance for you to connect with your favorite Jamestown Harbor friends, and make new ones, no matter which service you attend. Stay late. Come early. You’ll have a chance every week to join us as one group in the same place.
I hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to reach more people, but also to invest in your existing relationships. Family Time can be more than just a space in between… it can actually be a pretty important part of your worship experience, so mark it on your calendar as we make the change on September 8!
